South Florida’s Shame: Alligator Alcatraz is a concentration camp

Wow, is this really what Florida is doing right now?

Gov. Ron DeSantis and President Trump’s hatred for migrants is truly demonic.

You’d have to be a follower of Satan to believe the treatment of innocent people in this camp is remotely acceptable.

What is Alligator Alcatraz?

It’s a concentration camp set up in the literal Everglades. Where the mosquitoes are reportedly massive- “the size of elephants.” Where people are served rotting food, infested with maggots and worms. Where detainees are denied the ability to bathe or clean themselves. Where the site flooded just days after opening.

If you think a camp needs a gas chamber to count as a concentration camp, open Google and educate yourself.

“What is a concentration camp?” You may be typing into your search engine as we speak.

Here’s a definition for you:

“A concentration camp is a site where large groups of people, typically those deemed political opponents, or members of minority ethnic or religious groups, are detained or confined under armed guard, usually without having been charged with a crime. The conditions in concentration camps are usually harsh, with prisoners subjected to inhumane treatment, forced labor, malnutrition, disease, and abuse. Death was a constant threat, and the mortality rate was often high.” - Oxford

The migrants inside are living this definition—word for word. Underneath a tent, caged in and bunked on top of each other.

Some far-right groups are profiting off this suffering by coining “Alligator Alcatraz” and putting it on shirts. They’re even calling the migrants “gator bait.”

America has a long, violent obsession with feeding black and brown people to alligators— it’s a disturbing act that still echoes today.

Since everything is “fake news,” here’s some real news for you: Did you know that Black babies during the Jim Crow era- probably even further back during slavery- were used as gator bait?

This is real life, and it’s sickening.

Horrible.

And yes, history is unmistakably repeating itself.

A Waste of Taxpayers’ Dollars

Alligator Alcatraz will cost the state $450 million within a year of operation.

Yes, just one year.

Meanwhile, Florida residents are being cut off from basic healthcare.

  • This is money that could’ve gone into protecting our schools from mass shootings.

  • It could’ve helped rebuild homes, businesses, and communities destroyed by hurricanes.

  • Kept homeless shelters running. Considering it’ll now be illegal for homeless people to sleep in public.

This is money that could’ve helped residents in the state period. And yet they’ve chosen to waste it on something so inhumane.

It’s shameful how quickly they’re able to scrape up some coins for something so unnecessary.

I don’t care if someone is entering this country legally or illegally.

I also do not care if you want migrants here or not.

What I care about are the willfully ignorant who do not understand that this is ILLEGAL.

This is not about legal status—it’s about basic human rights.

There are families being separated by ICE while they’re at their immigration hearing. They’re doing it the “legal way,” just as Trump and DeSantis want them to. But somehow, they’re being preyed upon and kidnapped before they can even enter the courtroom.

It’s obvious that this is not a matter of legality; this is pure racism, hatred, abuse of power, and white supremacy.

If we don’t speak up now, we’re complicit in repeating history’s darkest chapters.
